My DM4800 arrived last week, and I've been busy building a console to house this monster.

Thought I'd share the process / results. I have a sketchup file I'll upload as well in case it might help anyone else out. (Though not all of the measurements in the sketch up are exact).

All in all had about $150 in parts and 20-30 hours of labor into it.

3/4" MDF, joined with glue / dowels. The legs are just regular 2x4s with 2" dowels for the risers.

Looking forward to getting cabled up and digging in to the board!

I LOVE IT!!! Congratulations!

Very nice indeed!

Man, that is boffo. I wish I could work wood like that. (BTW, where did you find 2x4s that would lie flat?)

Thanks for the kind words guys!

Lol... the eternal struggle of being "that guy" at the lumber yard. ;)

Bob.

Absolutely Gorgeous! If I go the DM4800 route I will certainly be looking at your Sketchup drawing. I am into woodworking as well. Premo!

@Gravity Jim - Would love to be able to do that, but the honest truth is, with a full time job, 4 kids, and a handful of studio projects, I'm tapped out, lol.

I'm also not sure I'd trust my carpentry skills as "marketable". There's certain little imperfections you can tolerate when you're doing something DIY, that aren't probably as readily tolerated by a customer.

I will try to get a sketchup file posted today though. You might be able to find someone local in your area to work with you on it.

That's the other thing... I probably had 20-30 labor hours on the desk, while an experienced carpenter might have had closer to 10. :)

I'll try to see if I can find any more pictures of the assembly process, too.

There are carpenters falling out of the trees in North Bay... at least one circular saw or compressor or nail gun is being used within audible distance of my house virtually every day.

Thanks! Way more time than the build, lol. ;)

I was racking my brain in sketchup (I've used it before for other builds, so wasn't starting from scratch on the learning curve). Got the "concept" laid out in there, but did all the final measurements with pencil and paper after my DM arrived.

I tried to strike a balance between form / function and keeping it "simple" enough, I could actually get it done in a reasonable period of time. The one thing I did do, was constructed it in 3 sections that can separate with screws (with the sections fitting through a 36" door) in case I ever had to move it.

I went back and forth on doing a steel frame for the feet, but I have no welding experience, so just tried to "over engineer" it a bit.

Yeah it's all in the planning! I remember spending 2 weeks in just the design process. Great idea having 3 separate sections. I had 2 sections that had to be carried by 4 people! Yeah the welding thing can be a bit intimidating. Please see attached a pic of my desk.

Really fantastic. Love the wood trim panels on the side! See the Steinberg CC controllers sitting there too. How do you like those things?

Ah.... didn't know you could use them for WaveLab too. That's pretty cool!

In any case, cool to run in to someone else who's been down the same "rabbit hole" so to speak on the desk / console build. Looks like you've got a great set up there!

Wish you all the best, and fruitful work / projects!

Gosh that's darn pretty!
