Recently purchased the DP 32 sd ......My process is recording on the dp32 then importing tracks into Sonar 8 for mixing, When I export the mix set to a negative value , sometimes -3 to -6 db then import that into the dp32 the levels while playing back hit red on occasion tho in Sonar it was exported below "0".
the sound does not seem to be clipping or distorted during playback just hit red now and then.

Thanks for any info on this.

Good to be on the forum!

Mike, first you need to assure "0dB" is the same on both:
  • Input a steady signal (e.g. pink noise, fm static) to a DP track
  • Set the DP stereo bus fader to unity gain/0dB (i.e. full up)
  • Set the trim control until the track meter reads 0dB
  • Raise the DP track fader until the stereo bus meter reads 0dB
  • Record about 30 seconds of signal at 0dB
  • Export the recorded track to the Sonar 8
  • Play back the steady state signal.
  • This confirms the Sonar 8 plays back at the same level.
Then do the same in reverse, recording the steady signal using the Sonar 8 and playing back on the DP. This will confirm the Sonar 8 recording at 0dB plays back at 0dB on the DP.

If unity gain is consistent both ways, then I'm guessing the DP is just better/quicker at responding to transients in your recording.

But I'm just guessing since I work exclusively within the DP environment. Someone with broader experience will likely chime in soon.
