DR 40 stops recording at 5 seconds

Anyone have this issue? Been working fine. I deleted all files and changed the batteries. Still stops after 4-5 seconds of recording. Goes into pre recording mode with the red light on the record button flashing.

Make sure your DR-40 is not set to Auto Record mode. If Auto Record is on the recorder will stop recording after about five seconds if it does not detect an input signal above a specific preset level.

Go to MENU > REC SETTING> AUTO REC and set MODE to OFF.

Mine has been set to off since day one. Double checked before I record too.

Except all recordings I did at an event, for whatever reasons, my dr-05x has haphazardly combined randomly the recordings in a weird and senseless approach I can't even piece them together.

A recording I did, say an hour ago, 5 seconds of it is mixed with a recording from 30 minutes ago, and vice versa.

Seemingly no pattern, just confused recordings.

My head is even aching from all the audios I've lost from this abnormal behavior. Many interviews I did, verified it is recording and yet, now I just can't even play them as only 5 seconds of them are recorded, and spread across multiple saved files.

What a clown device!
