So,
You can't assign two separate mikes for two separate singers on one track for a single recording? What about Input H set for high impedence for guitar. I've actually recorded both guitar and vocal (input A) on to a single track.

Some musicians have told me it's better/ easier for them while recording to play simultaneously with their partner, if their a duo for example, but they prefer separate mikes. Is this not possible on the 24sd?

Bravo, in Multitrack mode, it's 1 input per track, no matter what you may think you've been doing. The only way you can assign multiple inputs to a single track is in Bounce mode, and we're not going there yet.

Recording and playing simultaneously have nothing whatsoever to do with how you assign the tracks. Everything should be separate. What if you have 2 singers on the same track, and one of them is louder than the other? How do you fix that if you don't have individual playback and mixing control? If you want them on the same track have them sing together into the same mic. But since, you most likely aren't doing triple-tracked Queen sounding background vocals, record each singer on their own track.

You have 24 tracks! Use a single track for a single source. You're going to mix them later and you need individual control over panning. What would happen if, you recorded guitar and vocal on the same track - and then, the singer asked you to Pan the guitar Left and the voice Right? Or, make the guitar louder but not the voice? You're dead! 2 tracks = 2 sets of controls.
