- 414 portastudio mkii
Hi all, I'm baffled at an issue that I can't solve. Maybe it's my technique or maybe the machine is broken, I don't know.
I have a Portastudio 414 mkii. I can record onto all the tracks. Track 1 works and allows me to playback. I can record tracks 2 and 4 and play them along with track 1. However, if I record anything on track 3, track 1 stops playing back and becomes blank. The reverse happens if I record track 3 first. I can get track 2 and 4 or 1, 2 and 4, or 3, and 4 to record together. I've tried different tapes, different inputs, and about every combination of technique I can think of. Read the manual, watched videos, etc. Is my unit broken--or am I? Can anyone make a suggestion or help? Thanks!
EDIT: It doesn't matter what order I record them in, or how I pan them, or whether I'm using l/r record function or 1/3 function. As soon as track three begins to record, track one cuts out and becomes a blank. Before track 3 is punched in, track 1 works.
