Since I have both an MX2424 and several DA-88 machines I'm thinking about migrating a whole bunch of tracks to my two studio computers (Running Win 7 x64 and Win XP). Seems like a really easy, hands off way (especially from my DTRS tape machines) would be to hook up TDIF cables to a MOTU 2408 with the associated PCI-424 card and just it rip (relatively) unattended. Hard drives being cheap and fast this would be a good archival system, I think.

The first question I'd have is what sort of software would need to be installed on the computer to accept those .wav files?

Thanks for any experience, insights, or advice available!

If you mean you will be recording to wav (and not transferring as data), a simple and free DAW like Audacity would work fine - and it has quite some good editing features as well.
