DP 24 punch in question

Hi,
I just got my DP24.
I am a long time 2488 user.
Is there a way to do hands free punch ins that don't require a foot pedal like I could with the 2488?
Just pressing record when I want to punch in and out instead going to work for me. Same with a foot pedal.

Yes - you can set punch in and punch out points beforehand, and it'll record only between those in/out points. From the manual: http://www.manualslib.com/manual/532574/Tascam-Dp-24.html?page=57#manual

Just got the DP-32SD and was wondering about this as well. Someone posted a decent video showing how to perform auto-punch with the DP-02, which operates essentially the same way:
