DR44WL Turn backlight off on bus power?

Is there any way to turn the backlight off on the DR44WL when you are using bus power? I am using a USB battery pack, and I think i'd get a lot more recording time out of it if the backlight would go off after 5 seconds or so like it does when its running off AA batteries.

...and yes...I realize you can turn it completely off in the menu. But I would prefer it come on for 5 seconds when I need it to, then turn off again.
