My FW-1082 has served me well since the mid-aughts, but now when powered up, it is exhibiting bizarre behavior. I have reloaded the firmware, and performed a reset on the unit, but it still doesn't respond properly. I've read some threads here that seem to point to a problem with the internal power module.
Anyway, in the interim, I just bought a US-4x4HR. It has nowhere near the capabilities of the 1082, but I'm hoping to get by on it until I can get the FW unit repaired.
I have a white box PC: AMD Phenom II 1090-T, 32 GB RAM, TI-chipset firewire PCI card, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, and SONAR 8.5 Producer (SONAR is now free). The PC is used exclusively for recording, has never been connected to a network, and I see no need to upgrade the OS or SONAR. (If it's not broke don't fix it.)
