New with dm-24

I can't seem to set up at all everything works has FireWire card and several other cards was hoping to hook to reaper via FireWire cord but I can't even get sound out with just a mic with out the mac pro and fire wire it's hopeless hahah how do I set this beast up I have the manual it is zero help I find just want some sound to record some drums etc
