Tascam 424 mkiii
Hello everyone and thank you in advance,

I have just bought a TASCAM portastudio 424 mkiii and I think something doesn't work fine. The problem comes when I set to off a channel previously recorded. I thought that the signal recorded in this channel wont sound. However, I noticed that if I set the headphones level very high I can always hear anything. The same happens when I set to tape and the fader is down to zero. Is it normal or shoud I repair something?

Thank you.

You could be recording too loud, and making too deep on an impression on the ferric oxide that covers the tape. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do to fix that besides just get a new tape as far as i know. As for turning the headphone level all the way up to gauge the levels, you will often hear bleed between tracks when you do that.

It doesn't sound to me like your machine has an issue, i would try recording quieter and not having the headphone output all the way up. Try to rely on the faders and master for volume adjustment.

hope this helps :)
