MX2424
Hi to all those who still hold the MX2424 dear to their hearts.
Has anyone tried to get an SCSI 2 SD card working to replace noisy SCSI Drives?
If so which adapter and SD cards did you try?
I have some Rhino Carriers I would like to mount them in.
I did read on the forum that someone was able to get a CF card working but no further info.
Thanks
Warren

Looks like my post was more like click bait.
This is what adapter I was considering https://store.inertialcomputing.com/SCSI2SD-s/100.htm Not sure about throughput required for 24 ch at 48K or if a SD card can handle it.
It does appear as 50 pin adapter to 68 pin will also be required.
Could just be piddling into the wind on this one.
Thanks for looking.

I use a SCSI2SD on my Kurzweil K2000 sampler. I don't think the SCSI 2 disk write read speed is anywhere near as fast as the later SCSI faster versions used in the MX24.

I checked the write speeds on various SCSI versions before I'll have a look for the details.

SCSI2SD 50pin is 20mb data per sec, SCSI Ultra wide 68pin as used in the MX-2424 is 80mb data per sec, read / write speed.

Details from an earlier post.

Thanks for your reply Carausius.
When I posted I was not sure of SD transfer rates.
As time goes by SCSI starts to disappear in the rear view mirror.
So I was trying to find something fast, quiet and above all compatible with the MX2424.
I have two MX units and a Remote but been using them less over time, its shame because they are great units. Its just faster and easier using my DAW's.
But I will continue to look for a solution that is cost effective.
Thanks again for your reply!

Acard 68pin LVD SCSI to SATA bridge adapter running at 160mb per sec is double the MX2424 data speed. I believe SATA v1 is 1.6gb per sec, SATA v2 is 3gb.

The prices on Europe EBay for MX242 compatible working SCSI drives & caddies, / computer cards, cables & terminators if using external drives, are much too expensive for 15-20 year old equipment, unless you happen to get a decent deal. SCSI is also very noisy.

It might be better to buy an SCSI LVD bridge adapter for £200, & then you can use the modern SATA / SDD drives.

The SATA drives are inexpensive, just get the 7200RPM 8mb cache versions, 80-160Gb is OK. I've bought used for £5-10 each & they all tested reliable.

The SSD drives are now also cheap, from new, around £18 for 120gb £26 for 250gb.

Also you can use a SATA caddy to transfer disks back & forth for editing in your DAW software of choice.

You could maybe try searching for other models & manufacturers of 68pin LVD SCSI bridge adapters, http://www.exin.com.tw/index.php/2019/05/20/68-pin-scsi-bridge-solution/
