I work on these units fairly regularly as they get traded into our music store. I see this issue 4 or 5 times per year on this particular model. About half of the time, it's a wire lifted on the heads, and the other half of the time, I have no clue what the problem is. Has anyone else seen this?

Here's some basic info:

1. Track 3 will play back previously recorded material.
2. Track 3 will erase what's previously been recorded if you try to record to it.
3. It won't record whether it's recording direct, or being bussed from another channel on the mixer.
4. All switches cleaned.
5. Solder inspected and gone over. No change.
6. All wiring connections reseated.
7. Everything looks clean and normal on the channel.

I suspect either a bad cap, or a bad IC. Given we see this issue fairly regularly, surely someone has seen this and knows how to fix it?

Anyone have any ideas?

I have not seen that and if you are going to work on this stuff get the scope out and do some tracing. The service manual and a scope is how we fixed these things not guessing.

Rigol scope are less than $300 now day so there is no reason a person can not fix this with a scope.
