Turn off backlight on DP-008EX

Just wondering if it's possible to turn the backlight off on a DP-008EX. It's unclear to me from the manual whether setting the contrast to 1 or 10 would do it. Note that the Back Light setting of OFF means keep the backlight ON. The other settings for the Back Light setting are for how long the backlight stays on, presumably after the last keypress.

Can someone who has one let me know?

It would be great to have one more space in my life where I'm not staring into a backlight

For battery operation I keep a high contrast (for good readout) but a low time period (for less battery drain). No light at all is not a configuration option.
