2488
Hi, everyone , This is my first post on this forum,
I have been using a 2488 for 10 years and I am very satisfied by the sound qualyties this recorder.
But I am confronted with the problem of empty exported track.
Then I need to update firmware to resolve this (Like I read yesterday in this forum).
I downloaded the v1.02 firmware and I am trying to update my 2488 (ver 1.00 build 0060).

I burnt the firmware update on RW disk and did correctly all the process, but this stops with this message (after the disk is introduced in the machine) : "System update incomplete -- please POWER OFF and retry."
I verivyed the file on the disk and it seems to be correct. I burnt a new RW disk with the firmware, but same result.

Anybody knows that problem ?

I know that it is a very old machine but the sound is soo cool, I would be very happy to resolve this update and continue my recordings without this bug.
Thank you for your reading.
Have a good day.

It sounds like it's not able to read that CD. Did it finalize properly'

Hi mjk, thanks for your answer !
I don't know what means "properly", after the above message ("System update incomplete -- please POWER OFF and retry."), I power off and the 2488 returns to the standard display when I switch on again.

If I retry the update process, it stops always with the same message.
When this message is displayed there is nothing I can do but turn off.

Sorry, I meant finalizing the CD in the burning process. I have a single computer, that no matter how many times I burned a CD over the last five years, no other machine has been able to read it. I can't figure out why. I just stopped using it to burn CDs.

Just a thought... since I know nothing about the 2488... but obviously it has a USB-connection.

Is it possible to save the update on your computer, and then install it directly from there?

But maybe the 2488 can't handle that kind of USB connection... maybe it only can handle updates through CD:s?

@ -mjk- :
Ok, I see... My PC computer is recent and works on windows 10.
I think the RW disk is good burned, when I read it in windows explorer I can see 2488v102.iso on the disk. If I open this file, I see a file v102.tas as it was a new disk.
I repeat the burning process with a second RW disk with the same result.

@Freebird :
I would like that to be the case, but when I launch the update process, the 2488 open the disk reader and wait until the disk is charged.
The installation description says that nothing must be plugged on the 2488 before beggining updating !

I think that we must looking for an other way.

Thanks for your help !

According to the update instructions, you must first create a CD image using the 2488vxxx.iso image file so the 2488 cd player can read it.
  • If all you've done is copy the 2488vxxx.iso image file to a data CD, then that's the cause of the problem. An ISO image file must be read and converted by software to make a usable CD.
  • The instructions reference using Roxio's "Easy CD Creator" software program to create the CD. That's 15 year old software, which may or may not work properly, if at all, under Windows 10.
  • Windows 7, 8, and 10 have a feature for burning an ISO image to a CD built right in. All you have to do is insert a writable CD, right-click the ISO image on your computer's hard drive, and then select the “Burn Disk Image” command.

Hi Mark, thanks for your answer and your ideas!

In Windows 10, using Windows Explorer, I used the built-in CD imaging capability for the 2488 Update CD.
But, maybe this function of Windows is a little different from that of Roxio's "Easy CD Creator" software. This could indeed be the source of my problem.

I'll try to found this Roxio's "Easy CD Creator" software program or equivalent to burn a new updating CD.
I hope that it's the good way !

Good night ! (it's the night in France...)

When you are finished buring a CD with an iso file you don't see the iso file on the disk - you see the structure that the iso file has created on the disk. If you are seeing the iso file then all you have done (apparently) is copy the file. You need to create a CD using the iso file.

Hi everybody !
Good news today !
After downloaded NeroBurning ROM 2021 (trial version), I burned a new update CD Image last night.
I tried this morning the update process on my 2488, and the CD was read at the first try.
It ends withs "System update complete".
My 2488 is now in version V1.02 !!!!!!

Thanks for your help !!!

Regardling windows 10 CD burning, it seems to be excactly the same than the one with Nero. The same result on CD, one file "v102.tas".
However, windows burned CD doesn't work, Nero burned CD works...

I am now in 1.02 version, it's the principal for me.

I can take back music, recording, export and mixing with the machine.
Fun is back.
See you later !
