2488 CD tray won't open

Hi Folks,
Noticed today that the CD tray in 2488 will not open, tried using a paperclip in the lil' hole, but still no go, anyone else ever have this issue, if so , did you resolve it? Thanks

Try a stronger (larger diameter) paper clip. Can't think of anything that would prevent manually opening it up unless you have a disc or "foreign" object lodged in the tray but you should be able to shake the unit and determine if something is in there (got kids?). Other option is to open up the 2488 and see what's going on in there. Not too difficult to open and inspect - just keep track of screw locations (experience speaking) and take some cell phone pics for reference .

Fixed this issue by replacing the DVD RW drive with one from the e-recycling depot for $3.

Great news! Did you figure out what froze up the old drive?

No, I mucked about with it a bit , tried white grease, then gave up after I called the e-recycling and got the $3 price quote for a replacement drive.

Definitely would have followed your same path if open and inspect didn't reveal anything obvious. You would have spent way more than $3 in aggravation trying to fix the old drive ! Good work on getting your machine back to 100%!
