Digital in/out for 2488

How and what do I use it for? I thought this might be the input for an iPhone or something like that with a stereo cable. I got as far as using a spdif cable but I need more info.

The digital in/outs are used to send a digital signal to / or from another digital device.

I use it to send mixes into my PC, recording them in Audacity. It keeps the song digital. There is no AD/DA conversion.

It wont send or recieve anologue signals.
