FW1884
I have a FW-1884 that I got for free.

I tried using an old HP Elitebook 8460p that has a 1394 port and it connects, but doesn't sync. No firewire light, no audio, no "in sync". I do see the device in control panel, Soft1884 or whatever that green text software is says it is connected, etc

I think because maybe that laptop doesn't have a TI firewire chip.

Does anyone have a laptop working with a FW-1884?

I've gotten it to work with Vista on a Dell D630, but once I upgraded to Windows 10, I wasn't able to get it working again.

I do have it working on a tower an add-on Firewire card.

I do have a D630 lying around, so I could try that. Not the greatest laptop though, was hoping for something a little more modern. The 8460 runs fine with a 3rd gen i5, but the Dell is a dog

The CPU & RAM can be upgraded in the D630. The D630 can take a T9500 2.60 GHz Core™2 Duo Processor, and you can put 8GB of RAM (I know Dell says it's limited to 4GB). This means you can run a 64 bit version of Vista (the latest supported OS for the D630). It won't be as fast as a 3dr gen i5, but it will run better than the stock D630.

Got a FW1082 working fine on a laptop WIN 10 with 1 extra mini PCI to firewire card replacing the WIFI card, works fine.
check or install a firewire 1394 driver legacy :
