Tape case rising when rewinding and stops

I just picked up a nice Porta 05. When rewinding, mostly when it is near the beginning, the tape case rises from the torque and stops rewinding and chatters. What can I do to either fix, or lessen the effect. I noticed it doesn't happen with all tapes. My TDKs it doesn't, but my Maxells do.

I'm no expert on cassette decks...but - as I'm old enough to remember when there wasn't recorded music - I've owned plenty.
And pretty much all had a feature when a rewinded/f-forwarded tape reaches the end, there's a sensor that stops the transport.
I suspect that mechanism in your deck is malfunctioning or partially functional.
