Hello everyone,

My name is Ayaz Rajput and I own CATS Ltd (Creative Arts Technical Services) here in Nairobi Kenya. We provide technical support for the TV and Film Industry.

We have 2 DM4800 mixers and an x48 Recorder as well as many option cards for our Tascam gear. We normally use the 2 DM4800's in Cascade mode so that we have 48 'real' trim-able inputs and also 48 TDIF channels into the x48 with out the need of IF-TD/DM cards. We also have 1 IF-FW/DM card on one of the mixers to connect to Logic Pro 9. By the way, almost all the sound engineers who have recorded on both the x48 and a DAW through the IF card have said the Dynamic range and quality from files from the X48 are clearly apparent!(Even in a 48khz domain) We almost always export the projects if time allows.

We Love these boards, the almost limitless routing, cascading, DAW capabilities, TC and Sync (Great for TV Production environment) e.t.c. At the point when we where investing in these 3 years ago, despite the presence on many new digital mixers in the market, the Tascam's out featured and out priced every thing out there. (In some way they still do)

In one of our large projects, we have the 2 DM4800's cascaded, TDIF and Remote to the x48, Logic 9 and multi camera recorders all synced up and with the transport controls of one Desk we start an stop recording all devices, and they all have the exact same Time code to boot!

We wish Tascam would continue to support these mixers and come out with new option cards (Like a DANTE card, AES50 or MADI) to interface with the new digital snakes and Firmware to support new OS. Also so sad that the IF-FW/DM card is discontinued.

(Anyone interested in designing our own cards)??

Anyway, Im sure many of you feel the same and like us your going to use you gear for as long as you can.

Regards,
Ayaz
