Tascam DP-32SD 32-Track
Hi all. I just joined yesterday, after my Tascam DP-32SD 32-Track Digital Portastudio was delivered.

This may sound like an odd question (or set of questions), but the query is sincere.

After becoming unhappy with the track limitations of my Zoom L-12, I started poking around to see what other options were available. When I came across a 20-track multitrack recorder (or 32-tracks, if you consider that 12 of those tracks can be stereo) for $425.00 new, I jumped on it. But ever since I ordered it and then later received it, I've been wondering if the deal was too good to be true. I tested the unit yesterday only by recording 5 test tracks, and it works great (other than the headphone amp hiss that is apparently normal).

It looks like the Tascam DP-32SD goes for anywhere from the mid five hundreds to seven hundred dollars new. Realizing of course that different retailers have different pricing and also that things go on sale from time to time, I'm just wondering if I bought the right Tascam DP-32SD because the price was so good.

Do they make a cheap Tascam DP-32SD and a more expensive Tascam DP-32SD with more features? I know they once made a model with a CD drive, and mine doesn't have one. Did they make any other models? Was there ever a recall? Is there anywhere I can look in the machine to make sure it's legit?

I just want to make sure I got the real deal, and that mine isn't refurnished or neutered.

Thanks.

They discontinued the CD model a few years ago. It also had midi. I am sure yours is legit. There is only the one version produced. Enjoy it!

Did yours come in a sealed box? Packaged as you would expect from a *new* product? It should be obvious.

The original version that had the CD burner and MIDI capable was discontinued in approx 2014. There has only been this version since - although they have rolled out many firmware updates - all improvements.

Why are you having concerns, doubts?

You are A okay.

I bought the same one 2 months ago from the same seller. I thought the same as you and I emailed the seller multiple times with the same concerns you have. It also comes with TH-02 headphones and wood headphone stand.

It came brand spankin new in the original packaging and I put it through its paces. Everything is perfect with the machine !

The money I saved bought me Phil Tippings Videos and Manual and a couple extra mem cards.

here is the US Amazon link for that machine (I am not affiliated with the seller whatsoever):

@multiverse Welcome to the Tascam Forums. You are going to love your Digital Portastudio.

Please read this before you do anything else: https://www.tascamforums.com/threads/dp-24-32-sd-new-members-please-read-this-first.7917/

Then update the firmware immediately.

Verify that the SD card that was shipped with the unit is a Tascam approved card. Often the cards that are shipped with these units are not approved cards, believe it or not. We've dealt with the "but this is the card that came with the unit!" syndrome. Virtually all issues with the machine are firmware and SD card related. Please do not minimize the impact of those factors. If you run into a problem and are running obsolete firmware and a non-approved SD card, we cannot help.

Once verified (or after acquiring a new, approved card) format the SD card in the machine.

Resist the urge to use the machine without updating the firmware or using a non-approved SD card.

Have fun!

Yes, I forgot to mention to update the firmware and to test the SD card they ship with.

The machine I got (link above) came with firmware version 1.11 and the card was perfect to start with, but I knew I would need another so I bought several "SanDisk Extreme Pro 32GB SDHC UHS-I Card (SDSDXXG-032G-GN4IN)"

Now, the link I provided previously above to the SD32 from Amazon recommends that you also purchase the 128gb sd card. DON'T PURCHASE ANYTHING OVER 32 GB, AS THAT IS THE MAX THE MACHINE IS RATED FOR.

In fact, do what MJK said above and you'll be fine. The folks here are top notch and know what they are talking about.

also, here are the PDF links from Tascam's site on supported media:
