Asking a stupid question

Okay... okay... help me understand...

Why does the MX2424 initially to 01:00:00:00 on the top line of the LCD? Is there some logical necessity for this? Or is this the (unquestioned) way it's always been done? Perspiring minds want to know.

It's because (at least back in the day) some time coded devices didn't like rolling through zero. It screwed up their sync. Therefore it was normal to start a session at 1 hour to avoid rolling through zero.

I had read this before. It makes some limited sense. Followup... is it possible to change that 1 hour offset to something else (like 00:00:00:00 since I'm not syncing to anything) as the default bootup? I'm looking at the MIDI code and see how when presetting my system. For my use... I don't need that offset.

You can change it to 00:00:00:00. Not quite sure how you get directly there, but you can just rewind the session. I think if I was synching to midi timecode I would still start it at 1 hour. It makes no difference in operation & you are trying to do something that is the reason people use the offset in the first place. But each to their own...

First of all, NOT a stupid question at all!

I just looked through the manual for the MX2424 and it says nothing about changing the default start time that I could find. I used 2424s for well over a decade (still have two in the studio), but I haven't in several years now. I loved those machines, but growing track counts at high sample rates forced me away.

I seem to recall in the MX View software there may have been a way to do it, but it's been awhile. I do know that when I loaded a project the project loaded at its starting point, so perhaps you could create a project that would act as a template which you could load after the machine boots.

Let me know if you need the manual. I've got all the literature I believe they ever published. Happy to send it up to dropbox for you to download.

Cheers
