TASCAM DP-24SD
Hi everybody,

So I just purchased a used TASCAM DP-24SD.

Is there a way to turn the headphones on and off or should you hear through them 100% of the time? I don't seem to hear through them while recording.

The faders, they seem to get louder when I go closer to zero and quieter when I slide down to 50 or 60 during playback. I would think the reverse would be true?

Is there a way to restore the demo song?

Thanks everyone,

David

Welcome to the forum David. Just adding to what the others have said:
1. Headphones and monitor outputs at the back are both controlled by the monitor level knob. You can't control their levels separately.
2. The monitor signal when recording is affected by the setting in the Menu, Preference, Auto Monitor. Page 63 in the DP-24SD manual. If it's a used machine, I would do a Factory Initialise (under Menu, Preference) to reset all these settings back to defaults.
3. Signal levels on the faders are measured in dB, where 0dB is unity gain level (the signal is neither amplified nor attenuated). The numbers aren't like the normal 0-10 (or 11 ) on a traditional amp. The 50/60 you refer to are negative values so are quieter than 0dB. The numbers above the 0dB mark are positive values and are louder. Tascam should really have added the +/- on those numbers to make it clear.
4. If you can't find the demo song, I have a copy of the one from my DP-32SD on my philizound.co.uk website (not sure if the DP-24 one is different though).

Most important advice for a new machine: make sure you are using the latest firmware and an approved sd-card... and do regular backups of your recordings.
Have fun :)

Hi Everybody,

Thank you for the help and insight. My first mistake was not plugging the instrument into the same track I was trying to hear. So I got that cleared up. Yay.

Phil Tipping, dude thank you so much. Yes, I downloaded the sample file from your website and put it onto the SD card, and voila it worked and I could now understand a little better what was going on.

Bazzbass Thank you for sharing the info on the faders. Seem odd to go lower instead of louder but now I understand.

Does anyone know off-hand if a Korg Volca can be connected directly to a DP-24?

Thanks

If is has a line out and you can find a cable that fits the output jacks on the Korg and the 1/4" line input jacks on the DP-24, yes. You can plug any line level inputs in the DP-24's line inputs.
