i am getting a good signal from my mic to the unit, but i have to push the monitor level, fader, and stereo level all the way up to even get a slight reading on the l/r stereo meters, any ideas?

Welcome to the forum Gary. Assuming you are referring to the Model 24 (you've posted in this section although your profile info says 24DP?), the Model 24 block diagram on page 53 should help trace the signal path. Things which could affect the signal level before it hits the main mix bus include the Input Select switch, the Channel Insert and Mute. After the bus, there's the SD Main Mix return switch and another Mute. I don't have the machine so there may well be others.
If you really meant the dp24 machine, let us know... assuming you assigned the input to a track, you need to arm the track first (press Rec button so it flashes red).

Make sure you have the Main button on the channel strip toggled.
