Dm3200
Olá, meu nome é Henry, sou do Brasil, uso o Google Tradutor e gostaria de ajuda para operar o DM3200, inclusive se posso operá-lo via PC, pois o uso na igreja e provavelmente seria mais fácil usá-lo em um PC.

@Henrykalves It would have been nice to have translated your post to English before posting it here. I am guessing that it has something to do with using the 3200 as a control surface. But, that was all that I was able to gather from your post

@henrykelvas, you may want to ask one of the moderators to move your thread to the "DM-3200 and DM-4800" forum where other DM-3200 owners will be more likely to see it.

@Mark Richards Great suggestion RE: The move to the appropriate Forum sub-section. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks Mark

I would like to know if the DM3200 has a way to send the audio to a computer and return to it live.

@Henrykalves This can be accomplished via the routing process. You would for example send audio out through Slots 1-32 of your FW card and have them return onto channels of your choosing. All depending on the DAW that you are using you may have to create / assisgn your I/O.

@Henrykalves: Longtime DM3200/DM4800 user here. You can use the DM3200 to interface with a computer, but this is normally used to record to a DAW. If that's what you want to do, you need to get a Firewire card for the computer. The DMs are often finicky about which Firewire card you use; it seems to like some chipsets better than others, usually those with VIA chipsets.

I've been running these for 10 years without issue:

It's an old piece, but you may be able to track one down. Alternatively, find one that uses a VIA chipset like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-IEEE-1394-FIREWIRE-Software-Cable/dp/B001U3W7ES and you should be good to go.

You'll also want to connect the console using the USB for control messages (transport controls of a DAW, for example)

That said, if what you want to do is control and mix using the DM3200 from a computer, I'm afraid I don't know of a way to make that happen without using a DAW. I use REAPER and it has web remote capabilities which allow you to control the program via an iPad - or even a phone - and those changes would be reflected in the faders of the DM3200. There isn't really computer software top control EQs, compression, or effects remotely that I'm aware of.

@timmdrumm For some reason when the OP mentioned sending audio to a computer and returning it through the DM I automatically assumed that he had a FW expansion card and that he was using a DAW. Perhaps, I was wrong. I realize that English is not his native tongue and the post lacked clarity. Thanks for chiming in

@Peter Batah : Thanks, Peter. My pleasure. I had the same thought as you did, actually. But the more I looked at his post that said "I would like to know if the DM3200 has a way to send the audio to a computer and return to it live.", I thought he might be asking something different.

Using translate, his initial post said "Hello, my name is Henry, I'm from Brazil, I use Google Translate and I would like help to operate the DM3200, including if I can operate it via PC, as I use it in church and it would probably be easier to use it on a PC." As soon as I saw the bit about using it in a church, it seemed to me he might be wanting to use it as a mixer and walk around the building adjusting his mix. I've read of mixers using an XTouch, I believe, and doing that. I could very well be WAY off base, but better safe than sorry.

On another note, which FW card are you using?

Cheers!

@timmdrumm Seems to make a lot more sense now that I have read your translation. Thanks for providing that. I am using the IF-FW/DMMKII in my 4800.

Same here. Which FW card in your computer? Always curious what's working well for other users. You never know when you might need to replace something.
Cheers

I have a Tascam DM3200 mixer and a FireWire card, and I’m planning to get a FireWire card for Windows and a FireWire cable. My goal is to route audio from the DM3200 into a Windows system, bring it into Reaper, where I can apply plugins, and then send the processed audio back to the DM3200’s outputs, including the main L/R and auxiliary outputs.

My question is: has anyone done this before? I want to make sure this workflow is feasible, and I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions from someone who's already set this up.

@Henrykalves: Yes! What you want to do is possible. I use a DM4800 (and a DM3200 for many years previously) with Reaper. While you cannot plugins in Reaper, volume, mute, solo, panning and record enable are perfectly controlled from the DM consoles.

While you get 32 tracks record i/o via Firewire, using the Remote layer and Bank controls, you can control the above functions on as many channels as the project has. I often have mix projects come in with over 100 tracks and the DM's faders and mutes work on everyone.

The USB connection lets you use the transport controls on the console as well, and backup any automation/console settings to the computer.

Enjoy!

@Peter Batah: no issues with the TI chipset? I've avoided them due to the warnings in the docs.

@timmdrumm Kindly refresh my memory. What exactly was the issue with TI chip(s).

There were compatibility issues early on, which I'm fairly sure were corrected with various firmware updates. There was a section in the initial card manual that reads:
chipsetInfo.jpg
It would seem this issue was corrected in later driver updates, as this is a section from V1.20's update docs with no mention of specific chipsets:
FW-1.20.jpg
A lot of folks have been using TI chipsets without issue for years now. I got my DM3200 in 2008, fairly early on in the updating cycle, so I chose the VIA chipset and it's served me well. That said, I believe I do have a couple TI chipset cards arounbd here that have never been used. Perhaps I'll try one in my next PC build.

Thanks for the info!!

@timmdrumm Thanks for providing me / us with that information. I have only had my FW for 3-4 years so I guess the bugs were ironed out as they say. So far I have not any issues. Fingers crossed! Have yourself a safe and wonderful Friday.

@timmdrumm By the way, I visited your website and noticed that you had done some work with a friend of mine and our Family. Frank Marino. We have known both he and his wife Denyse for a good number of years. As a matter of fact both our mothers' were childhood friends. Now, there's a history lesson for you

Ah, yes. Brother Frank! We worked together for a decade or so and remain friends today. Incredible player, producer and recordist. I learned a lot from watching him work, particularly the way he uses the studio as an instrument in its own right!

A very small world indeed. All the best to you, Peter!
