DA-98. Servo error 31

Hello,

I bought a Tascam DA-98, turned it on and put a tape in it. Got this error message:

WARNING !!
Servo error 31
Cycle the power

In the error manual it says: Occurrence of tape slack during tape runs. Cycle the power and replace the tape.
I have tried to restart the unit a few times but the tape won´t come out when I press the eject button.
Is there a combination of buttons to press at startup to eject the tape? I don´t want to open the unit.

Unless you have tech skills with DAT it would be almost impossible for you to fix and the procedure would be pages long. There may be something on Youtube that would help.

my da 98 error is : servo error 02 cycle power

A error 2 means the drum- heads- are not spinning or the machine "thinks" it's not spinning. If you are in the U.S. I still work on the Tascam DTRS DA-88/38/98/78HR/98HR machines.
