Hi, doing some maintenance on my DM-3200 and MX-2424, I take time to check and measure the delay of audio signals going through the system.
Here some result for 48K. I will certainly add an appendix to the DM-3200 documentation (for Chrismas
)
DM-3200 Digital delay
---------------------
FS 48KHz sp=20,83334 µS
Delay measured between analog input signal and analog output signal.
Stereo Analog Stereo Output (XLR)
Aux 1-2 routed to Assignable Sends 1-2
Channel delay
-------------
Gate, Dynamic an EQ do not add any delay when activated.
1 Mic/lin analog input routed to Channel/strip then assigned to STEREO ref-1
Delay 1,678ms ~81,5sp
2 Additional delay if channel assign to bus then bus assigned to STEREO +3sp ref-2
if you mix channels to STEREO and channels group via buses, could add +3sp delay to channel
not routed through busses.
3 Channel to Aux send compare to (ref-1)
channel source:
PRE or post +6sp
Return +0sp
Only important if you use STEREO an AUX output to reproduce in same room
4 Stereo to Aux 1-2 Aux 1-2 signal compare to STEREO ref-1 +12sp
Only important if you use STEREO an AUX output to reproduce audio signal in same room.
5 Bus to Aux 1-2 + 7sp compare to ref-2
+10sp compare to ref-1
Only important if you use STEREO an AUX output to reproduce audio signal in same room.
6 Stereo to channel (loopback) send to Aux 1-2 +19sp
Permit to insert EQ on STEREO out
19sp delay: channel delay is 13sp + 6sp to go to Aux 1-2
Only important if you use STEREO an AUX output to reproduce audio signal in same room.
7 Mic/Lin to channel assigned to bus to TDIF to MX-2424 to TDIF to Channel to Stereo + 22sp compare to ref-1
Inserting TDIF and MX-2424 add +22sp
Only for information.
Effect delay
-----------------
8 Insert effect in channel: +10sp (for TC-Works or Tascam FX-2)
compensation: Could add 10sp delay to all channel without effect.
9 Effect via Aux send then back to channel assigned to stereo (for TC-Works or Tascam FX-2)
delay between original signal and same signal back from effect +16sp
remove direct output from effect
Could add 16sp delay to all channel without effect (13 if routed via buses).
Could add 6sp delay to all channel with inserted effect.
External loop delay ( loop inserted in Channel path using ROUTING>INSERT
10 ADAT loop (internal delay of the DM-3200 sending to external digital effect)
+10sp
11 AES (DIN loop)
+16sp (sample rate converted add +3ms on transmit and receive, active or not)
Your comments are welcome.
If interested with some measure, tell me. At the moment impossible to measure directly on the digital signal because my scope cannot decode the serial 24 bit audio word. could do it if really necessary.
Best regards.
