DR-100 MkIII not charging - organge and green blinking light

Hi all

My DR-100 mkIII isn't charging.

I plug in the USB, and the light blinks red and green. (From the manual: "The CHG indicator alternately lights orange and green. • Proper charging might not be possible in a location that is too hot or too cold. Charging is possible when the temperature is between 0−30°C" but the temperature is fine here.)

The charge status bars show as empty, even when I put AA batteries in.

Is it because I'm charging via USB? Do I need to buy the BP-6AA to charge it with?

Anyone else had this issue and can shed some light?

An aditional question for anyone kind enough to respond:
If I wanted to make my own power adapter for it, in line with the official specs, what would I buy? AC adapter + USB adapters?

I can't afford the official one, which is £40:

According to the specs on the Amazon page, its an ordinary 5v, 2A USB charger with some extra cables to fit various ports, mini and micro. I would buy something like a Xiaomi 60W USB charger and get some new mini and micro cables and see how you make out with those. I have their 120W charger that I use with my drone and it works very well.
