Hello everyone,

can anyone tell me if there is any power in the ext in jack on the dr-100mkiii? I want to use this jack to record/digitize records and don’t want to fry my preamp. I know there is an option to turn phantom power on and off but I don’t know if this affects the ext in mini stereo jack. The manual says that this jack is plug in power capable but I’m not sure what that means.

thanks in advance.

The product specifications (https://tascam.com/us/product/dr-100mkiii/spec) says ("EXT IN Connector 1/8" [3.5mm]) Stereo mini jack (this connector can be supplied plug-in power)") , and Reference Manual (https://tascam.com/downloads/products/tascam/dr-100mkiii/E_DR-100MK3_RM_vB.pdf) page 22, "Using Plug-in Power", provides a "Turn plug-in power on or off" option, and Page 3 shows a stereo mic connected to the EXT-In jack, so I suspect that the stereo EXT-In jack is provided with "power" (low-current 5v is common) when it's enabled; the default is Off. Phantom power on the XLRs is unrelated. I doubt you'll have any difficulty feeding stereo from your preamp to EXT-In.

That said, I don't have a DR-100mkiii but it sure looks inviting.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the reply. It does look like there is an option in the menu to turn off the plug in power. It looks like you can even select if the ext in jack is line level or mic level. Pretty slick.

I’m likely going to pick one up for recording my vinyl, I may wait for a Black Friday sale, tho.

thanks again,

Steve
