DR-44WL
Hi, folks.

I record bats, currently using a DR-44WL and two or four electret-array mics of my construction. In the field (Cape Coral/Punta Gorda area) it is often more comfortable to be in my vehicle than it is outdoors shortly after dusk when most bats emerge from roosts - and mosquitoes rule the night. The WiFi control feature of the recorder is very handy but it has limited useful range, claimed to be 65 feet in sales literature but more like 35 feet in my experience.

I found an inexpensive solution, perhaps not surprisingly, a WiFi range extender. Others might work as well but I chose a Netgear WN2000RPT, ~$18 refurbished on Amazon (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VWZE7S). I power it with a small 12v gel cell and place it close to the recorder. In a test at home I found the control range with DR_Control app on a MotoX Android smartphone to be beyond 600 feet with the extender four feet off the ground, superb.

FWIW, I hope someone finds this useful.
