Just purchased the DP32SD and I need to update it to the latest version. I have also the 2488 but I wanted a new toy.

I'm excited to begin recording my new songs and I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. My main learning point with this new DP32SD is the copy and paste function which could aid me in getting my recordings done quicker.

I hopefully can play a riff one time and then be able to loop it instead of playing the riff for the songs duration as one small mistake and it's start all over.

This really is time consuming however beneficial as you get total mastery of your song and can play it live if the opportunity ever presents itself but I really just want to get a song recorded while saving time.

If anyone has any tips on how I can accomplish this please drop me some feedback as I would greatly appreciate it.

Best of success to you all in your musical production endeavors...

Welcome to the show. We have some lovely gifts for you...Leeandrea here will escort you to your place on the stage. Just ignore the studio audience and the cameras...
OOPS. Sorry. Was flashing back to when I was on Celebrity $10,000 pyramid with Loni Anderson. Haven't had my meds yet this morning.

ANYway. Congrats on your new gear!
Sounds like you know more than you think...or at least more than a lot of people. I've had a musician in my studio who asked me why it was so important to sing directly into the mic.

I feel sympatico with you on several points - I also recently moved from a long & fruitful 15-year relationship with my 2488's (I had one at each incarnation) to a DP32. I posted about it - there's a few things I really miss about the 2488, but overall, I've quickly come to love and appreciate my DP.
Although I did nearly take it out to the driveway and run it over with my car, when it "file corrupted" a project in progress, rendering it destroyed. I was so angry I made Pootin look like Odie the dog. BUT - thanks to the DP's fantastic computer-friendly file system (something the 2488's DIDN'T have!) - the entire project was backed up, restored, and work continued. The DP survived the incident.

I also can completely understand your interest in the copy/paste feature of the DP (though I should note that the 2488's also do this, and quite well! Look in the manual under the "Track Editing" section).
It is indeed challenging to take a newly-written/created part and play it perfectly end-to-end...especially if you're not a really seasoned musician. I myself, in the early part of my "career":)) used the loop approach to create parts much of the time - and still do, to a smaller degree, as I'm more experience but still a very garden-variety musician...as well as old, stewpid, and lazy.

In that light, I could possibly shed much light on the technique/process...though it would make this post EVEN longer, and the moderators would send mouth-breathing roadies over to break my thumbs.
Perhaps you could stop over with some Miller Light and nachos, and I'll give you some pointers. Bring Alan Parsons - I'm trying to get a vocal mix just right...

Welcome to the forums.

Look in the pinned sticky threads in the shaded area of the "2488 and DP-24/32/SD" forum for a post on how to create a gapless loop. It's either in the "Production Tips" or "Equipment Tips" sticky thread (each sticky has an index as the first post).

Also, Phil Tipping's "Tutorial and Informational Videos" sticky thread walks you through all the major functions of the DP-24/32/SD. Phil's tutorial videos are free, but he always appreciates a donation as a "thank you" for his hard work.;)

Lastly, the "DP-24/32/SD New Members..." sticky will help you avoid the three most common new-user missteps.

Um...yeah, I forgot that part - the PortaStudio section of the forum has a SLEW of fantastic "pinned" posts that are MUCH more helpful than the manual.
And you should also check out Phil Tipping's YouTube's on the DP's. They're fantastically informative, and he also offers some terrific materials - including a "how to" manual that renders the Tascam manual unfit for bird-cage-floor lining.

Shredd,

You a true character, I admire that I can't thank you enough for dropping some love, I mean, if I wasn't in Brugge Belgium and back home in the states, I most definitely would of brought you a case of Miller Lite as it would be worth it in return for figuring out how to loop it.

Here in Belgium we choose Jupiler, which isn't my favorite but I have a 6 pack in the fridge nonetheless and I slam one every now and then, I mean it's gone in like a minute and a half, thats how I enjoy 1

I'm definitely not putting out music this time around with so many mistakes as my previous effort. I need this to be as tight as possible.

Hope to share some more time with you soon.

Best of success to you all in your musical production endeavors...
