tascam mx2424SE
i am having problems getting started with recording and hard drive etc. .... start time ..... length ......
project display ..... mx-01/ head ....... ??
i have what i believe is the mx2424 manual.
i keep getting "punch in before tape " message ?
should i push channel one button twice to make red record blink before recording.
rec/select button lit [ left side ] .......... is there instructions anywhere on how to use these buttons etc?
I create a project but it does not identify itself in the display.
Do i need to record a volume/track before it will actually load and identify the project?
lots of pondering and scratching my head !!
this unit has no internal hard drive ........ hard drive loaded in front bay.
Note: my last attempt at a mx2424 ..... it had an internal drive and a external drive which i tried to
use as back up and fried the board just in back of the front bay!! ......

after reading some of the threads i have made some progress !!
i have to "load" the project before i can record etc. The project name is not
displayed once i come back to the default display.
now i can record and play back and listen.!!
i spent mucho time stumbling around the manuel.
thank you

When you create a new project you need to record something before it actually exists. If you close the project without recording anything it will disappear.

I suggest 2 things, read the tutorial as its way easier then trying the read the many volumes and updates of the manual. And attach the mx to a PC using MX View as its much better for managing projects and using the functions. Read the thread about installing MX view on a later windows machine.

PM you email and I'll send you the tutorial and a copy via drop box of an installed MX view you will need

The SE version works exactly the same as the standard version.

Thank You !!
i am making progress. Recorded some track sounds ....... created, loaded , and played back
a project ..... and closing a new project without recording anything [ project disappears ]
had me baffled.
Yes, i am pondering installing MX View.
i installed a drop box for my gmail.
Question ? does this chain of connections make sense:
Ethernet out of MX [ Cat 5 ] to a USB 2.0 mini b into a Seagate Hard Drive [ for backup ]
USB out of Seagate to Computer.
and
do you think it is prudent to have Windows XP installed on a new [ affordable] computer.
i would use the computer only for audio related to using the MX.

MX view makes it a much more powerful machine. To connect the Ethernet to a hard drive you need a computer in between. Any old XP machine will do as the MX view is basically a remote control of the software inside the MX, The Computer is really a display and does not work hard, even a windows 95 or 9, or 2000 machine works fine as the software was written for 95.

Once the computer is running you can back up to the internal drive and copy to the USB drive. The MX won't see the USB drive directly.

If you send me a personal message with your email address I will send you the drop box link to a preinstalled copy of MX View, which you will need for XP, and any other document you may need for example the tutorial.

Cheers
Alan.

Alan .....
can i send you a personal message from the Tascam Forums site ?
i tried your .com address which did not work.

Hi Allen .....
question ...... did you send me a dropbox link ? to my e mail ?
read some threads and looks like i must take the files out of your dropbox into
my dropbox [ which i just set up ] ......
am i thinking correctly ?
mabe i'll start a new thread on the mx2424 forum not specific to the manual
for others who might be interested.
thanks again

thank you for the files !!
having trouble with the mx view folder .........
1] i dragged the mx view folder to my downloads folder on my mac.
2] copied it to a thumb nail drive
3] loaded it into another computer with Win XP -
put in program files and created shortcut on desktop
4] i open mx view and i get the following message in a
drop box - microsoft internet explorer window:
to help protect security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file
from showing active content that could access your computer.
??????
i'm thinking i copied more then just the needed program files ?
stuck again
