Hi, first post here. I recently replaced a long-standing Mac/ZedR16/MOTU setup with a new Mac, Harrison Mixbus DAW, Model 12 interface, and an old Roland A-880 MIDI router for the rack gear.
I'm finding the Model 12 pretty good for a small device but have some questions about how it does, or does not, sync with other kit in the MIDI realm. I've read what I can find online, watched videos, scoured the user guide, and found no specific answers to this, so I wonder if anyone here can help?
First thing to point out is I have no trouble with the Tascam in standlone mode as a recorder – its internal MIDI clock out over DIN works a treat. I also know the Model 12 does not respond to clock etc. and must be the clock master for other devices.
However, I'm having problems using it with the DAW.
From what I infer from the MIDI implementation chart, it should pass all MIDI through from a USB-connected source to its MIDI DIN Out port. The Tascam's DIN MIDI Out is connected to my MIDI router, and from there to whatever I choose to patch through to. Currently this is a Novation Circuit Rhythm. I'm getting MIDI notes through to external devices OK – when I play MIDI notes in the DAW, the Circuit Rhythm plays those notes. Fine. But hitting Play on the DAW transport doesn't get the Circuit playing. The Start and Stop commands appear to be getting through, as the router flashes to indicate message activity, but the Circuit doesn't respond and there's no clock coming through by the looks of it. I should add this is not a setting issue on the Circuit, because it works perfectly in this arrangement when the Tascam's own play button is pressed.
Now, as I've replaced my whole setup here, I am aware there may be problems in my settings of the DAW and/or the Mac Audio/MIDI Setup application, but at this point I have spent several hours getting nowhere and just want to know if anyone else has the Model 12 hooked up to use the DAW as a clock source to simply pass through clock/transport to external gear while the Model 12 acts as an intermediary to hand these messages along.
Or does it not do that?
