Hello mjk. Thank you for your reply. Sorry for the lack of information I provided.
Problem: I was doing a lot of Home recording many years ago. I was heavily into using midi at the time. The last recording rig I used was a Korg D3200. I recently purchased a used Tascam DP-24SD.
A few months ago, I decided to get into recording again and thought that I didn't want to use midi anymore because it added a layer of more technicality. Anyway, I was wrong. I would like to use midi so I can better utilize my Yamaha Genos for its voicing, but more as the "metronome" and drum machine to sync with my Tascam. I use its "Styles" and rhyme tracks extensively. I would also like to use the "In/Out function editing optimally.
Currently, when I record, I press the Genos and the Tascam record as close to the same time as I can. This usually takes 4 or 5 times before it syncs acceptably. A midi track would eliminate this issue. Currently for recording the audio of the Genos for its voicing, I use its audio outs to the Tascam and the metronome on the Tascam.
I was thinking that if I got a Tascam DP-24, I could use the midi to get the drum track timing from the Genos, then import into the DP-24SD to finish the other recording tracks (I didn't want to switch to a different system because I already learned the DP-24SD). As I now think I understand, that would not work as the midi file would still be in midi format, which the DP-24SD wouldn't be able to use. I should have bought a used DP-24, but they are hard to find here, and are either in pretty bad condition or in good condition pretty expensive.
At this time I think I might try a system Phil Tipping recommends -the old Tape syncing method.
Any of your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.
Rick
