More ftp questions! backup options

hi all
Trying to connect to my laptop. Using a twisted cable. Windows 10.
No luck. Followed the settings in the forum but nothing.
Is windows 10 ok for this or has anyone used OS X? Those are the 2 possibilities I have.
Is it possible my laptop Ethernet isn’t compatible? ASUS i5 laptop.
Any tips?
Also while I’m at it, are there any removable or modern devices that can be used on the scsi port for backup?
