Hello,

First of all, I apologise because this might seem like a shopping list of problems that aren't related or that are dealt with elsewhere. I know others have said this, but a lot of this is NOT explained in the manual.

I've used my Tascam DP 24-SD for a couple of years, and have previously had no problems mixing and mastering multi-track recordings. However, yesterday I plugged it in after not using it for a couple of months, and there seem to be a few problems. Yes, it's up to date with the firmware and I've checked with various mics etc.. I've initialised and formatted the SD card. I've spent ages going through the previous posts.

1. Inputs 6,7 and 8 (or F G and H?) aren't getting a signal, or if they are, it's weak or distorted. I can see the meter lighting up for each track, but whatever I'm hearing through the monitors is non-existent or bad.

2. I tested with previous recordings and the demo song, and it seems like many of the tracks are simply not giving me any monitor. Again, I can see the level meters for individual tracks.

3. I did a recording using only the tracks/inputs that work, but I couldn't get any reverb on the master file. This seemed to work effortlessly in the past. Maybe I'm missing something, but the previous two faults have caused me to doubt the machine. I tried changing the send to "post". Sorry, I know this has probably "been dealt with elsewhere", but I've trawled through tutorials and posts and I'm still stuck, and it didn't seem like an issue before.

4. The mark set buttons didn't seem to be working. I couldn't set an out point. Again, previously it didn't seem to be a problem.

So, either I'm missing things or the machine has died. Has anyone got an idea what I might be doing wrong with any of these issues?
Is it worth trying to fix these things?
Should I just fix my analogue portastudio? Which is going to be more painful now, analogue or digital with its arcane interfaces and throwaway culture?

Thanks!

You said many tracks are not giving you monitor. So unless you use the stereo bus or you assign inputs to multiple tracks, you can’t be 100% sure that you have an issue with the inputs because it could be that your monitor is no good.

First thing I would do is take some Deoxit and clean all the controls and switches and especially the faders.
