I am glad that I can help you to make a decision... Ok I will explain what my biggest trouble was and how I solved it.
1. Wrong Firewire card. First you have to buy a Firewire card that has a TI chipset (Texas Instruments compatible is). You can check that by going to Search on aliexpress and you will find many cards, I bought one of the cheapest and works perfectly. Right click start and go to device management Search under IEEEE 1394-hostcontrollers and go to tabblad details. Here you search for Hardware id's If you see VEN_104C then it is Texas Instruments. Others give more problems like VIA (VEN _1106 or VEN_1180.
2. Driver install. Here you need the driver that is the latest one from Tascam. Important is to do a exactly these steps.
My biggest problem was how to bypass (Code 39) Without bypassing this you will not succeed to install correctly the driver.
Step-by-step solution
Follow these steps in order:
1. Uninstall the current, failed installation if that exist.
1. Open Device Manager.
2. Under "Sound, video and game controllers," look for the item with the yellow warning (TASCAM IF-FW/DMmkII).
3. Right-click and select "Uninstall device." If prompted, check "Delete driver software for this device."
4. Restart your PC.
2. Boot Windows 11 with driver enforcement disabled
This is the core of the solution. You need to reboot once without driver enforcement:
1. Hold down the Shift key while clicking Start > Power > Restart.
2. After rebooting, a blue screen with options will appear. Select Troubleshoot.
3. Select Advanced options.
4. Select Startup Settings.
5. Click Restart.
6. After rebooting, you will see a list of options. Press the 7 or F7 key for the option: "Disable driver enforcement."
7. Windows will now boot with driver enforcement disabled (for this session only).
3. Reinstall the driver (NOW)
Now that you are in this special boot mode:
1.
Make sure the DM-4800 is not connected yet. 2. Run the TASCAM installation file (IFFWDMmkII.exe) again, preferably as an administrator and with Windows 7 compatibility mode enabled.
3. After installation: Restart your PC normally (do not restart in special mode). Windows will now boot normally, with enforcement enabled again, but the driver will now be accepted.
4. Only then connect the FireWire cable and turn on the mixer.
4. Check the result
Check in Device Manager whether the TASCAM driver is now listed under "Sound, video and game controllers" without a yellow warning.
If it still doesn't work: Disable Core Isolation.
Sometimes an additional security layer in Windows 11 blocks the driver even after installation.
1. Type "Windows Security" in the search bar and open it.
2. Go to "Device Security."
3. Click on "Core Isolation Details."
4. Disable the switch for "Memory Integrity."
5. Restart your PC and test again.
Disabling driver enforcement and a clean reinstall is usually the only way to bypass Code 39 on Windows 11.
I left my PC in enabled Memory Integrity. I don't use this PC on internet...
The other software, for the DM4800, TMC you need to install too. This needs to be done under the command prompt. In windows 11 you can easily make a copy of the path of the file. In search type cmd and click enter. It will come with the command prompt. Click Run as administrator. You come in the black screen with the command prompt. Here you copy the path and don't forget to move away the * marks. Click enter and the TMC will be installed.
