DP32 sd, DR40
Ive taken the plunge and got the DP32, it wasnt a hard sell although I liked the in daw features of the Zoom R24 BUT went for quality instead.

I have two streams for music one in DAW and now with an octatrack and motu midi express XT with saffire pros without DAW.

Ive spent a few days familiarising myself with the DP32 but need a little guidance.

As the unit has no sync abilities I find it hard about where to or how to start, should i just record track by track once at a time and transfer over to DAW.

I tried to record 4 bars or just over from the aira TR8 and tried setting in and out points but the loop doesnt sound quite right. can one track be a loop on repeat and then the rest across a timeline or is it only linear across all tracks?

anyway maybe someone can point me in the right directions.

Despite these start up difficulties the sound that comes out once recorded is amazing I have to say.

Seems a bit quiet here, so I'll try my 2 cents.
"should i just record track by track once at a time and transfer over to DAW"
That's how I do it. If you record a guide track first you can use this to sync up the other tracks. When you transfer to the DAW, make sure you export the tracks first and take them from the AudioDepot folder. You may be tempted to take them from the Music folder, but these are internal 'work' files and are not guaranteed to be time-aligned... there may also be more wave files than there are tracks so you wouldn't know how to piece them together.
Looping is across all tracks. I think it's intended for rehearsal-type duties and not true musical looping - have seen some forum comments re. a slight pause at the end of the loop. I would prepare your loop on the DAW first and record as much as you need for the song, then you've got a guide for the DP32 while you record the other tracks. If you add a count-in before the loop starts, or use the first loop as a count-in then you'll get a clean start for the others. You could also just import a guide wave file instead of recording it in real-time.
Agree with you re. quality and recording. Had mine about 5 months and have had no glitches, although I don't use the internal processing much. It's mainly used as a 8-track location recorder for processing back at 'base'. I think if you make sure you have the latest f/w and use a good sd-card, it's a good solid machine.

Yes ive struggled a little bit but used it for the first time in earnest a couple of days ago i prepared in ableton and then used the dp32 to record the tracks in real time.

I will try your idea of a guide track maybe I thought I might be able to do that with the tr8, its a hame the tr8 cannot stop itself after 16 bars or so but I will get the hang of it. Ive just got some Beyer dt770 80 for it so i can use the dp32 monitor mix and do a vocal without the vocal bleeding into the mic. I love its versatility like that.

I think I am too used to Ableton looping and moving accordingly to have expected the dp32 to do it BUT I definitively am not disappointed with it, its a wonderful piece of kit. I wish all these things had been around 30 years ago

I am really sorry to intrude in your thread but I am new to the forum and I am a complete novice!
I can't see where I can start my own thread so here is my question.
I have just purchased a used Tascam MD 350 and I want to transfer a minidisc from there to my Laptop.
Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.
Apologies again for intruding

Since there isn’t a forum for Tascam’s CD players and misc standalone recorders, I can see why someone put a question about the MD-350 here. The easiest way to transfer a legacy Minidisc recording from the MD-250 is to use the analog outputs, hook up an interface to your computer (such as Tascam’s own US-2x2), and record to the computer using the interface, being sure to not clip (it’s better to record too quiet than too loud with digital).

(yes, that MD-350 critter has a lightpipe SPDIF output, but finding an interface with lightpipe that’s not ADAT lightpipe is tricky these days)
