Sure...using it currently with two DM-3200s. Caveat... I am not using the firewire card. I am using Dante.
Using the TDIF ports and expansion slots, you can use interfaces and format converters to get to a format you can use besides just analog or Firewire I/o. One direct option is using Soundgrid with a DLI and Digidesign 192-D interfaces to directly bring in TDIF and go directly into Soundgrid. I have that setup, and have gone away from that to Dante, because, as of Waves v14, they stopped supporting Soungrid Studio (and DSP server support outside of SuperRack), so in v15, you need to use QRec, and are only able to network with four SoundGrid interfaces...granted, with a DLI, that's up to 64/64 on a single DLI and digilink interfaces...but if you want to expand outward, that's a drawback compared to the way Soundgrid was originally marketed to the studio environment.
To get out of that, I got an Euphonix FC-726 to format convert TDIF. It's been mentioned in here (I think)... but can do up to 56/56 in/out of almost any format into MADI or 28 to go Format-MADI-Format. It requires custom breakouts on DB-50s for each channel block, even including the AES DB-25 ports because they are pinned to Euphonix...which is neither Tascam or Yamaha standard. It uses the original MADI standard, so 56-channels only at 48k.
Now that it's in MADI, one could go into AVB, with a MOTU 112D, or MOTU M64, but those are a rare bird these days (although at the time of writing...a 112D is on eBay). I elected to get an RME HDSPe MADIface with Thunderbolt to ExpressCard adapter. That works...and works well. However, in my case with two DMs and needing 64ch to fill out both, getting the last set of channels in/out became an obstacle trying to avoid another interface and aggregate style setup, plus, I want to have additional I/o as needed, which is entirely overkill.
Hense, the move to Dante. I got a deal on a Ferrofish Verto MX, which will bring MADI into Dante. It supposedly works with 'legacy' MADI and does in fact accept 56-channel MADI. Mine has the Brooklyn 3 card, and I'm not sure if that's a part of an issue, but it won't send out said 56-channel MADI, it's stuck in long frame 64-channel format, which the FC-726 will not take. While waiting to see if Ferrofish will update firmware to hopefully correct this, I am using the MADIface as a bridge device set to 1:1 route audio in/out in TotalMix, not using it as an assignable interface inside of the OS.
On the computer side, I have an RME AoX-D in a Thunderbolt PCIe expansion chassis, which can do up to 512/512 between Dante and expansion breakouts. I also have a Biamp Tesira Forte DSP interface and the TC-5D acting as a 32/32 Dante/AVB bridge to connect to the Motu 24Ai/Ao interfaces that I already have, which gets me the additional 8ch of ADAT left for 64/64 on the DMs and an additional 24/24 of analog I/o.
That's entirely overkill, and ProTools Studio will only see 64/64 if my memory serves...but I am currently using it with PT on its current version. I'm not currently using the remote layer, but it does work following other posts by CMaffia on cascaded DMs and the caveats surrounding doing so.
I am planning on making a post detailing all of that once I have finished it setup and Verto issues corrected, amongst a few other things that I can't speak on just yet.
I hope that gives you a bit of info to consider.
