I recently tried to play a cassette in both of the mechanisms of my Tascam 202 mkiii unit. The mechanism starts the tape and I hear clicking, but the buttons do not work and I am unable to eject the cassette using the button. This occurs in both #1 and #2 mechanisms.

I can not say that I have worked on this mechanism but the cheaper devices seem to always rely on flywheel assisted mechanism and they are downed by a loose belt or bad grease in the mechanism that needs to be cleaned out with denatured alcohol and then a grease like Lubriplate 105 used. The problem is the amount of time used on the bench and cost does not meet with clients demands and so these kinds of units are considered throw away or parts units.
