DR-05X
I decided to try using the MARK function
(which writes "tab-stops" within the file
to allow jumping to those positions).

I initially created 2 test-files on the DR-05x,
one in WAV format and one in MP3 format.
In both cases, I was able to press MARK at various points
while playing the file,
and was able to later "tab" to those positions easily
(by pressing and holding the MARK key
and then pressing either NEXT or PREVIOUS).

But then I tried to do the same thing on a podcast MP3 file
(that was created elsewhere),
but when I pressed MARK while playing it,
I got a "Protected Card" message.

One would think this means that the SD card is write-protected
and isn't allowing any files on it to be altered.
But that can't be the explanation, because ...
1. The SD card used on a DR-05x is actually a microSD card,
which has no physical switch to lock/unlock it.
2. There's only one medium for outputting data on the DR-05x,
and that's the microSD card,
so if I can be allowed to record and save a file using the DR-05x,
then that's proof that the SD card isn't write-protected.

I also checked the file attributes (whether the files are read-only)
and found that the podcast files (that didn't work with MARK)
had the exact same attributes as the test-files (that worked with MARK).

That leads me to conclude that the DR-05x expects an existing file
to have a certain internal structure or setting,
before it allows the MARK feature to work.

If this is true, is there a way to correct/adjust an existing MP3 file
so that it will work with the MARK feature ?

Thanks for your help.
