Hey guys, need some help here.

Im trying to record directly with my Tascam D-40 direct into the camera instead of trying to sync audio in post. Currently the cable im using is this

2m/ 6.6ft XLR Male to 3.5mm Plug Audio Cable Cord.

But I seem to be missing something as when I connect the cables and try to record it doesnt detect from my camera. Is there something I'm missing in the setup with the D-40 or with camera? Is it supposed to be on some type of setting? I can't seem to find any info on it. Much help would be appreciated.

XLR? The XLRs of the DR-40 are only for recording INPUTS.
The only output on the DR-40 is the 1/8" stereo LINE OUT on the left edge of the unit.
So it's really as simple as using a cable with 1/8" 3 conductor stereo on both ends.
This is assuming the camera has a 1/8" stereo input jack to record incoming audio.
