One of my 122 mk II units will only stay on if the power switch is held in the pressed position. Any leads on where to look to start the repair would be appreciated

Sounds like a defective switch. Maybe some Deoxit would help. I have yet to see that defect and I work on a lot of 122 decks- all versions.
From the limits of what I can diagnose: it seems that the ‘latching’ internal part of the switch is not engaging.
I see the following part number: SDL1P-TV3.

A lot of Power switches in them days were TV switches and the number usually was for the current they would allow. If the mounting is correct change it. Tascam should maybe have the part but I have never seen one fail so far. Maybe the latch part is with old grease on it so some Deoxit would clean it up. I have had to change some TV-5 or 7 switches in older open reel decks. Maybe one or two.
