Tascam 122 MKiii 3 blinking lights at power up

I have a Tascam 122 MKiii where the 3 lights start blinking immediately at power on, that is, before attempting any tape insertion or operation. If the problem were the C10 gear or a belt I would assume I would not get the blink error until I tried an operation. The eject works normally. That is the ONLY front panel transport button that does anything. I have removed the transport, what should I look for?

Wrong assumption! It is very likely one of the plastic gears, you should check them in the transports control mechanism. It is also likely that the capstan motor has also issues, but firts tackle the gears. Also jave a look at the forward and rewind idler, it usually hardens and brakes apart in pieces. There is no belt in the MKIII

I am posting my own solution. The problem was indeed the infamous C10 gear which had stripped teeth. Just ordered new one on eBay.
