Tascam 244 Trouble Shooting

Hi All,

Recently acquired a TASCAM 244. Transport appears to be mostly fine. FF and RW work fine with and without a tape in. PLAY operates fine when there is no tape in. When a tape is in, PLAY engages and then stops as if it has reached the end of a tape. Can someone please suggest the problem so I can fix it? I can't remember if there is a simple trick or if an actual repair is necessary.

Hi Eric,
I would be placing a MTT160 into it at the shop to see what torques it has. If the deck will not drive tape then it need service work. Might be a new Idler tire or a new fast wind belt. There are so many mechanisms that I find it hard to remember. I have worked on at least 50 or 60 of them in the past years.
