Tascam us-16x08 freezes my laptop

My tascam us-16x08 on, frezees my ASUS laptop, 2Gh dual core, 3Gb RAM, 250Gb HD with win7 Ultimate running Reaper.
The CPU 100% with the tascam ON and freezes.
Any help is apreciated.
