Teac a2300s reel to reel

Hello Folks,
I just picked up a Teac a2300s reel to reel.
It is missing the playback head.

According to the service manual,
It could have used 50664490 (early SN's) or 50663249 for the rev 2 and later SN's.
Mine is a later SN (345940)

Assuming it is the 50663240, does anyone know if I MUST use that head due to electronic part considerations or is there another head I can substitute? Nortronics heads?

Yes, If the Nortronics head is made to mount in that position it will work but the better head would be the 3007 ending head made for the X series decks. I have installed many different heads in decks and they all worked. Installing a head is not just screw it in but a lot of adjustment vertical and tangency as well as azimuth. You only get one chance at it. Don't go looking for those older like heads as they did not last that long. The X series heads were much better.
