Track problems with a DP-008EX

My father's been having problems with his DP-008EX so I figured this would be the best place to ask.

The problem is that tracks, mostly 1-4 but sometimes the others, will sometimes 1) skip; i.e he'll be playing back the track on 1 and it'll skip to 3 suddenly. 2) double up and play a mash of two different tracks together. and 3) they'll suddenly stop playing a track right in the middle of the playback.

Any idea what could be causing this?

That sounds really frustrating. I can't think of what could be causing this. It sounds like a faulty unit to me.

Had a couple of thoughts - could there be brief power outage happening? May be worthwhile investing in the specified power supply if he hasn't already. Also, is he arming just one track at a time when he's recording or more than one? When he's listening back to a track, what happens when the other knobs are down at 0 or muted?
