Trouble with inserts (m16) and DBX 266xl

hello friends, I've been working with my m16 since about may. I'm trying to use the inserts on channels one and two for my kick drum and snare. I have a DBX 266xl already on my control room outs on my mastering chain for export to cassette tape. So i can I use the side chain insets on the compressor when recording to use for the inserts of channels 1 & 2. I've included a segment of both owners manuals discussing the side chain and inserts. When I tried this, with TRS cables, I could see action on the compressor but the sound wasn't coming back to the channel. Any help would be appreciated, thanks ! Jeff

Search "insert cable" on any music store site.

You need a cable which looks like a "y." The base of the Y is 1/4" TRS, and the branches are only TS.

The TRS end plus into the model 16 insert. It carries a signal both out and in.
One TS branch of the "y" plugs into the effect IN.
The other TS branch of the Y plugs into effect OUT.

If it doesn't work, swap the branches.
