Hi everyone.

I started this thread because I saw a lot of people looking for more inputs via TDIF and MOTU hardware and some had asked about AVID hardware. A couple of things:

  1. The prices on eBay for AVID hardware is SOOOOOO LOW! Very tempting to get stuff.

  2. If you do get something - get the 96 version - the board only goes up to that anyway.

  3. Make sure you get a Core card. It's necessary to use with the rack unit.

  4. The older hardware is all 32bit - beware! If you wanted to get into Pro Tools now - you would need to make sure the hardware supports 64bit - just check.

  5. The TDIF hardware were usually separate cards in the Audio Interface unit. Make sure you find a unit with TDIF cards.

  6. For Pro Tools control - the board works great, but for plugins - I suggest you invest in an M-Audio Axiom keyboard. They are already mapped for Pro Tools and there are setups in Pro Tools for them.

  7. You can also get an older EuCon Artist Series controller. These units are GREAT supplements for 3rd party plugin control, as well having a laptop for mobile recording.

  8. Finally - the Digidesign Command 8 will also do the job for plugin control, but you will have to find the Legacy Drivers on the AVID site for it to operate in the latest versions of Pro Tools.
I hope that has been helpful. All I ask is that you do some research - I do NOT have all the answers, but I have a suggestions and I put them all here.

Carry on.

Thanks for this Ernie!
